Fertilizer
- Adapt fertilization to soil analysis;
- N: We recommend 240 kg Nitrogen per ha (including soil supply);
- N: a split gift of N is advisable, with 2/3 before planting and 1/3 at flowering/tuberisation
- Split application is advisable to keep foliage vigorous, resulting in bigger tubers;
- Phosphorous and Potassium/Kalium according to standard use
Pre-treatment
- Keep the seed in cold store to prevent physiological ageing and dehydration;
- Take the seed out of the cold store on time, at around 3 to 4 weeks prior to planting. Planting is done best with tuber in ‘white buds stadium’: see photo; place bags in ventilated area at ambient temperature. Do not pile the bags up;
- Do not de-sprout in order to prevent little potato disorder;
- Treatment against Rhizoctonia is advised, as well as treatment against Silverscurf and other soil borne (skin) diseases; Azoxystrobine as a soil application shows good results
Growing attention points
- Sylvana has a good drought tolerance;
- Emergence is somewhat slow, later on foliage develops well;
- Spray timely & regularly to prevent late blight;
- Later in the season use products with strong tuber protection against tuber blight;
- Use products that have an effect on Alternaria solani and Alternaria alternata
Haulmkilling and harvest
Take care of a good skin set period before harvesting, to harden the skin completely.
