We are happy to inform you that this year's way of discharging constituted a breach with the past, as for the first time potatoes were discharged per pallet in stead of per bag. This meant that the potatoes arrive in the best possible order at their destiny, as they are no longer handled manually several times during discharging.

This time forklifts were used inside the ship to move the pallets to the middle of the ship's hold. There a sling was put around two pallets at a time, after which the sling hoisted the pallets onto the quay, where another forklift put the pallets onto the awaiting trucks.

This new way of discharging not only prevents damage to the potatoes, but also allows for much quicker discharging. After seeing photos and a video of the loading of the vessels in The Netherlands made by NedaLibya, the harbour committee kindly agreed to a try out. After witnessing the positive results, the committee implemented this method for the complete cargo of both HZPC-shipments. We are grateful to the committee for this opportunity and look forward to seeing this way of discharging continued, and on a final note we would like to request the committee to consider providing more forklifts that enable this way of discharging, as there was a shortage of forklifts in the harbour.
